Data Centres Ireland 3rd Leadership Debate “Heat, Close to the Edge”

The Data Centres Ireland 3rd Leadership debate and 5th in the CATALYST Webinar Series “Heat, Close to the Edge” was broadcast on Tuesday 22nd September, despite some technical problems at the start, there was a healthy debate on all things data centres and heat. It remains the view of the project that the reuse of data centre waste heat is viable, but the entire concept needs support at planning level, this we believe is slowly starting to change and we expect a further acceleration via policy changes and potentially regulations at EU and National levels. We know that the heat can be used within building, adajcent buildings and as inputs to where the external district heating system already exist or are planned. Data Centres should take steps to liase with local authorities at planning stage (as indicated in the CATALYST Roadmap Handbook, which is available after registering to use the CATALYST Roadmap and Assessment tool on our stub site here.
